That is the name for the power of blogs to butter the bread of language with ideas. Big Blogger Daddy Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine can throw a term out in the noosphere, Dell Hell, that becomes a new term for a new idea. It also can create corporate hell in trying to deal with it. Hell, Dell, it just won't go away, will it?
The message is really becoming a two-way system now and language is changing rapidly (more on this in MotherPie's Ramblings tomorrow).
For a history of Dell Hell evolution and the power Jarvis Jam at work hitting a cultural nerve in the blogosphere, see MotherPie's earlier Tech Hell, Dell Hell post and how New York Times' David Pogue hit the Jarvis Jam on this issue last week (click and scroll down on the Dell Hell story for link to how to deal with getting past phone automation... the big buzz of February).
Culturally and semantically Dell Hell really doesn't refer much at all to Dell as it has morphed into a new word term signifying tech frustration in general.
Pretty hellacious power out there...
Update: Dell Hell and Jarvis Jam still going strong in late April '06. Check out the Big Blog Daddy's Buzz Machine on the continuing subject.
