Hallie is one happy golden retriever. She really does smile! Golden retrievers are one of the most sociable breeds of dogs (they like people more than other dogs) and unlike most dogs, they will be loyal to anyone who is nice to them. They are so friendly they are great for family dogs but don't make the best watchdogs!
Hallie even smiles for the camera. She does more than just wag her tail. She is one happy dog (except in storms). Dog behaviorists can help you if your dog is not happy.
If Hallie could talk, she'd tell us she misses us and that she is happy in her new home. She smiles when she sees us. I cry when I see her; I am never sure if she'll still be around when I next come to visit.
Hallie, whose name was inspired by a Lyle Lovett song, (..."hallelujah,
now let's go eat..."), did not make the move to NYC. My sweet
sister-in-law takes such good care of her. We all say that when we
die, we want to come back as one of her dogs! My sweet sister-in-law told me that she used to say "love you to Pluto and back" since Pluto was the furthest away planet, but alas, Pluto isn't a planet anymore...the next farthest away is Neptune...so... we all love Hallie to Neptune and back!
Halliegirl goes neurotic during thunderstorms. My mother told me about
a dog whisperer lady who several of her friends met with regarding the
behavior of their dogs. They had success stories with altering the
behavior of the dogs. Her stories make me think it might work for
Hallie. It was not the famous dog whisperer/behaviorist Cesar Millan from the 2004 tv show the Dog Whisperer. Mom, can you add a comment and find that person you could recommend?
A home with a dog is so full of life...
