Stetson Silver Belly Cowboy Hat...
That, my friends, is a 4X fur felt Stetson Silver Belly, at right, with a cattleman crown. Silver-Belly refers to the color of the hat.
If you didn't know this little detail, I thought since I'm clinging to the West this week in my writings, I'd throw this factoid in and let you know that L.B.J., that Texan president, preferred to wear Stetson Silver Belly hats. My Texas Panhandle-born Daddy doesn't really wear cowboy hats. But my husband has a Silver Belly with that "special crease" (keep reading).
Real cowboys and those who maybe aren't real cowboys but know how to apply real authentic fashion details in the RIGHT WAY would know this. It is a fine hat. See the cowboys and what they're wearin' in my earlier Marlboro Man posts this week. Yep. Silver Belly cowboy hats, most likely Stetsons, worn by the Marlboro Man.
Now, there is even more to the particular details. A Fort Worth man can identify another man from Ft. Worth by the CREASE IN HIS HAT. No lie. It is called "The Fort Worth Crease" and it is a little horizontal dent in the front. Other important creases: the crease in jeans.
And that is that on the hat.
Just so you know.

But there is no "Ft. Worth dimple" in that hat. Also, 4x, is on the low end of the "x" scale. Lets put a 20X hat up there if we are talking about cowtown!

Excellent! I am reading NORWOOD by Charles Portis and the main character wears a hat with a Fort Worth crease. Now, I grew up in Houston so I don't know from Fort Worth, so I had to look that up. And here the answer was, just waiting for me! Thanks!
