Masticating on New Media and Motherhood... Daily at 3:00 p.m. EST, Easy Tips included!
- Language changes happening rapidly -- driven by the new
mediasphere and technology. Sort of like Bushspeak and
Bushisms which may be genetic or there may be something in the water
out in West Texas or it is a current cultural construct. I'm having to invent words that aren't even in Wikipedia yet (just like the word wiki isn't even in Webster's yet) and the noospherical ideas are requiring new expressions. See this post
for how I struggled to find words to express these ideas. Some words
aren't in the dictionary yet, or even in Wikipedia. In fact, Wikipedia itself was the #5 top word that was looked up in Wikipedia. Some I make up,
like ovasphere, to express the idea of a virtual space for women, combing the idea of ova and mediasphere. What words catch and what words don't? Will ovasphere be wikipediafied? I tagged this post "ovasphere". Is it foksonomical? Is it more portmaneau, or neologistical, or morpheme-onomical or dialectically semantical? If it can be Googled, is it real? Today Google asks if I meant novasphere if ovasphere is Googled. Novasphere isn't listed in either Webster or Wikipedia but it is all over Google. What does that mean?
- Copyright issues...This is getting really thorny and complicated online and in the postmodern world of remixing, reconfiguring, linking, etc. I've placed a Creative Commons copyright on this site which has restrictions (non-commercial use, attribution and requires permission for reuse of material). It seems to be more workable that the traditional copyright for an online blogazine like this. Too bad we can't remix our kids and tweak out their bad traits, huh? Or can we? Or even better, wouldn't it be great if we could tweak our husbands? Or life? And claim all the glory when the resulting product was better? Can you copyright life itself? I think they're doing it with DNA.
- MotherPie Tip of the Day: If you like a MotherPie post or story, click the link at the bottom of the story that says "permalink" and it will give you the page with the permanent "file address" at the top in your browser. Cut and paste that link address into your email and zam! You can blast it "out there." Otherwise, if you just check in here anytime for the lastest, you'll get that days' news with the most recent post at the top. Scroll down for more info from prior posts. Check the links at the left in the blue column for categories or archived by month... Easy way to return to MotherPie? Bookmark it. Some already know how to do RSS and put a link to this site from elsewhere. But if you want a brush-up, here's the old way to get news and the new way to get news and feeds and how to get MotherPie as a newsfeed.
It's all tickety-boo and hopefully not too twee. Cheers.
