Sometimes, as an American, I think about what we are missing by leaving out the gender for our nouns.
In French, in Spanish - in other languages, things have more depth and more nuance and more play when they have a gender. A window is male, a cup feminine. Cities are female, in French.
We, we English speakers, we limit ourselves. These subtle inferences of difference between things and places, marking them by gender traits, impact a world outlook. Thinking of things as neither male nor female is a lot more simple.
