We returned over the fourth to the old summer stomping grounds of my husband -- Red River, New Mexico, where an ancestor once claimed this place as a Territorial Marshall. His grave is unmarked in the old mining ghost town, Elizabethtown, not too far down the highway. The Fourth Parade was pretty cute, the little bit we saw after exploring the mountains all morning. The parade started out with 12 dancers from Questa, followed by the area's Little League participants. Really we went so that my husband and son could try out new fly fishing rods and try to catch trout in lakes and rivers in Northern New Mexico.
I tried to capture the old Red River on the Fourth and I've posted them in a Flickr set.
Just catching up w/ blog reads and via Joared, found this post on Liberty a good post-4th read. Chris Nolan writes about politics and blogging. Democrats and progressives are way ahead on the ins and outs of the online activism. His article is a good read after the Supreme Court ruling giving big money an online gateway. Liberty and freedom for all.
My husband loves fly fishing in New Mexico. In fact, 29 years ago today we were enjoying that same thing not too far from there. The mountains and New Mexico, a great combination for making memories.

Nice pix in the Flickr. That town sort of reminds me of Virginia City, Nevada.

We love the area around Red River and the quaintness of the town. I really like it between the summer and winter seasons as there are a lot less people there! It is really beautiful!
My husband bought be a book on fly fishing for our anniversary last year and is supposed to schedule a fly fishing lesson sometime! I think it would be a blast!
