Recovering from shoulder surgery, I've paged through a huge stack of books, my favorite being Larry McMurtry's Books.
This book is not about his own writing and teaching but his love of book collecting, a life-long passion. On my trips to and from Santa Fe and Dallas/Fort Worth I pass the the turn-off to Archer City, where McMurtry set up his huge collection from his Washington D.C. shop, Booked Up, which operated there for 30 years plus. My book loving friend Sandy told me she drove to the Archer City Booked Up and it wasn't open and I silently mourned the death of something rich in the writing and reading world, remote though it was.
The website for Booked Up notes that although the economic downturn has killed off most booksellers, this one is still operating, just not on Sundays.
Next trip over, I'm pulling off at Archer City.
Hope you are healing quickly, enjoy your reading!

I hope you're recovering well.
I'd love to see McMurtry's collection.

Trust your recovery is going well. I surely do love old bookstores. Our last one filed for bankruptcy recently. There's one in Texas, Cowtown Pattie has written about, I'd like to visit. Likewise, I want to drop in on Powell's in Portland, OR. Many in L.A. continue to go out of business, too.
