You have to be of a certain age to know what this is. To know that the Indian in full headdress at the top and this pattern came on when programming was off-air. Those hours when most everyone should be sleeping.

They closed each evening with a prayer and the National Anthem, while the flag flew. Couldn't get by with that now.

I remember that. The national anthem played over a video of a flag flying, then the test pattern came on and that annoying static. What they call "white noise" now. Usually I only saw this on Fridays, because I wasn't allowed to stay up that late.

But it was still on at 5:30 am when my brother and I got up eager for cartoons. We were always disappointed that we had to sit through the farm report first. You'd think we'd have stayed in bed.
